Your Children Are Being Indoctrinated

10 08 2007

I thought there was separation of church and state.  Guess not, since Scholastic, the American publisher of Harry Potter is releasing a book called The Down-To-Earth Guide To Climate Change, which is really just one big hotwa.

Releasing a book is one thing, but Scholastic releases these books to public (and some private) schools.

Here’s a snippet from WebWire:

“In her jaw-dropping interview, Laurie David makes it clear that her book has been written specifically to indoctrinate children,” asserts Jackson. Last week Publishers Weekly quoted David as saying, “Kids also are the number one influence on their parents, so if you want to reach the parents, go to the kids.”

Yep, get ’em while they’re young… while their brains are full of mush.  Indoctrinate.  Give them faith in the new Religion Of Global Warming.

Bravo, Scholastic.  Bravo.

Bring on The Great Warming!

NASA: 1998 Will Be Cooler Than You Think

9 08 2007

Thanks Y2K! You weren’t a bad potential catastrophe, after all.

Well, it turns out, according to the NASA GISS database, that 1998 was not even the hottest year of the last century. This is because many temperatures from recent decades that appeared to show substantial warming have been revised downwards. Here is how that happened (if you want to skip the story, make sure to look at the numbers at the bottom).

One of the most cited and used historical surface temperature databases is that of NASA/Goddard’s GISS. This is not some weird skeptics site. It is considered one of the premier world temperature data bases, and it is maintained by anthropogenic global warming true believers. It has consistently shown more warming than any other data base, and is thus a favorite source for folks like Al Gore. These GISS readings in the US rely mainly on the US Historical Climate Network (USHCN) which is a network of about 1000 weather stations taking temperatures, a number of which have been in place for over 100 years.

So how is this possible? How can the global warming numbers used in critical policy decisions and scientific models be so wrong with so basic of an error? And how can this error have gone undetected for the better part of a decade? The answer to the latter question is because the global warming and climate community resist scrutiny. This weeks Newsweek article and statements by Al Gore are basically aimed at suppressing any scientific criticism or challenge to global warming research. That is why NASA can keep its temperature algorithms secret, with no outside complaint, something that would cause howls of protest in any other area of scientific inquiry.

UPDATE:  Flaming Skull from Ace:

NASA has now silently released corrected figures, and the changes are truly astounding. The warmest year on record is now 1934. 1998 (long trumpeted by the media as record-breaking) moves to second place. 1921 takes third. In fact, 5 of the 10 warmest years on record now all occur before World War II. Anthony Watts has put the new data in chart form, along with a more detailed summary of the events. The effect of the correction on global temperatures is minor (some 1-2% less warming than originally thought), but the effect on the US global warming propaganda machine could be huge.

The Mysterious Enigma Of Global Warming Strikes Again

9 08 2007

Hot off the intertubes from FOX.

The pace of global warming may slow down over the next few years, before speeding up again, a new study says.

The results of the study, detailed in the Aug. 10 issue of the journal Science, are based on a modified climate model that better predicts potential climate change on shorter time scales, the authors say.

Will somebody please tell me why we can’t predict the weather 5 days from now, but we can somehow magically predict the weather years into the future…

Man, these scientists are gooood!

Gore May Re-enter Politics

9 08 2007

If this heat wave persists, it may be next week.  From The Hindu.

“I may re-enter politics at some point in the future because I’m only 59 years old,” Gore told reporters on the sidelines of a forum in Singapore.

Gore said he has “no plan” to run in the 2008 presidential election but aims to make the environment a focus of public discussion during the campaign.

“There is no single candidate that is putting forward a comprehensive argument about the environment or making climate change a priority,” Gore said. “I will continue to work so that public opinion will push all candidates to make climate a priority.”

I will eat my laptop if Gore doesn’t announce his candidacy for the 2008 Presidential Election.

Kinda like this guy eats glass and planes.
