The King, The Mice And The Cheese
19 03 2007A retro children’s book hits the nail right on the head.
The Age, an Australia-based news site, makes an astute observation:
In the book, a cheese-loving king’s castle is infested with mice. So the king brings in cats to get rid of the mice. Then the castle’s overrun with cats, so he brings in dogs to get rid of them, then lions to get rid of the dogs, elephants to get rid of the lions, and finally, mice to get rid of the elephants.
That scenario in “The King, the Mice and the Cheese,” by Nancy and Eric Gurney, should give scientists pause before taking extreme measures to mess with Mother Nature, says Weaver of the University of Victoria.
A commenter over at Amazon notes that the key lessons of the book are:
1. That wise men (ie experts) are not always that wise.
2. Government intervention to solve a problem is not always that successful and often does a lot of damage.
3. It is sometimes far better for a government to simply find a way to accommodate a problem rather than try and fix it.
Couldn’t have said it better myself, or I would have.

“Crow”ing About Global Warming
19 03 2007Vacuous crooner Sheryl Crow is going on tour to promote awareness of climate change.
It’s the “Stop Global Warming College Tour.” I refuse to link to it on principle (indoctrination).
Here’s the scoop, from The Post Chronicle via Drudge.
The tour will aim to “motivate college students to become part of the movement to stop global warming and demand solutions from themselves, their schools and their country,” according to a press release.
The tour is scheduled to launch April 9 in Dallas, and other stops are planned in College Station, TX; Baton Rouge, LA; New Orleans; Birmingham, AL; Auburn, AL; Gainesville, FL; Atlanta; Charlottesville, VA; Nashville, TN; Chapel Hill, NC; College Park, MD; and Washington, DC. Each stop will feature a 90-minute presentation, a short performance by Crow, clips from former Vice President Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth,” prerecorded video clips from various comedians and a Q&A session with student attendees.
Some of her lyrics from “Am I Getting Through?”:
I am ignorant and rude
I am fashionably crude
And sometimes when it’s quiet
I’m an angel in whiteWhen I pose in the mirror
I want everyone near me
I am scared that I’m weird
I’m afraid I am queerI am lovely and weak
I am foul when I speak
I am strange when I’m kind
I am frying my mind
Trying to fry some other minds along the way, it seems.

Q&A
19 03 2007Is it really that hard to connect the dots on global warming? Why do so many people have blinders on?
More questions:
- Why do most climate models ignore water vapor as a greenhouse gas?
- Why, if Mars and other planets are warming, can’t the sun have more culpability on this issue?
- Why is it a “moral imperative” to change the way I live if the trumpeters of this apocalypse don’t change their behavior?
- Why does The Religion Of Global Warming say the science is settled?
- Why, if we have trouble predicting tomorrow’s weather, are we so sure we can predict the weather 5, 10, 20, 100 years from now?
- Why are the potential benefits of climate change squelched?
- Why are our children being indoctrinated into believing something that has not been proven?
- Why is China exempt from Kyoto?
Answer:
Because a socialist scheme to redistribute the world’s wealth must have some sort of ruse in order to garner the support of mush-for-brains who will credulously follow an anti-capitalist agenda.
